Well, not necessarily protect them, but here's my idea. Im not sure if guests can already see photo galleries on some boards. Do they have to log into PG to see them? I cant remember. Anyways, first make users log in to view galleries (some or all), then allow the posters to hide their content with a HIDE TAG MOD. This will force users to make a comment until they can see the images/links.
Now, this wont wont really protect our links, but once a set disappears we can look at the last couple of posters that commented on the set (look at the date,time, and post count) and try to figure out who is the poster (content cartel) that is responsible for having the files disappear. Then once for sure we know who it is we can ban them.
yes, banning really doesnt stop them come coming back but at least we can watch the trends on how and when the content mafia logs in.
It may be a bit of work, but it could be kinda fun fucking with them.
