I don't mean to be argumentative, and I'm not a mod, but I've been wondering the same thing. Every other forum I've been to (and I belong to 3 others similar to this) ban stuff becaus the company says no and they don't want to get in trouble. Banned on every other forum but this one: Kari Sweets' pics, Playboy, Penthouse, and FHM magazine pics. Why are those allowed here? (I'm not complaining, just curious.)
The server on which the Proving-Grounds is hosted is located in Europe. It's legitimate there to link to any content regardless of copyright status. DMCA notifications have no effect and ISP's there dismiss such notifications as low priority and trivial.
Same story with the Piratebay, they were located in Sweden because law makes them close to untouchable. Ofcourse public pressure on such gigantic high profile websites instigates other parties. Compared, the PG is a small player and focuses on celebrities and soft/hardcore content. That 'niche' is not interesting. After all, porn made the internet to what it is now. Gigantic.
Anyway, as soon a forum bans content it's a sign for me to leave. What's the next step, closing registration? Lame sites ban content, good sites move servers, excellent sites reply with: FU
@samsun, if you are located in a country that follows the DMCA act and should an imagehost disclose your IP, you can get in trouble. Chance is nihil but present.

Wrong. Trust me.

And that gives you the right to freely distribute content that the content's owner(s) don't want to be distributed that way? Who are you?

I agree. Replying with "FU" is an excellent way to show one's low, limited level of thinking and arguing. But it's this indifference and nonchalance that you're so proud of in your lives, isn't it?

Thanks for your reply abcdef.
Wrong. Trust me.
Theoretically you are correct, though partly. In reality ISP's do not care, especially ones in Europe (from my experience). When a copyright holder sends a complaint to the IP owner of the website (ISP), the ISP forwards it the server holder with the preferred method of action; which is removal of links. However, failure to do so results in nothing and upon further communication with the ISP their answer is that it's legit to link to images whatever the rights.

The purpose of forums like this one is to share stuff. People don't care about rights on such forums. Contributors don't care about what content owner(s) think. People want stuff, contributors deliver it. In return, contributors get respect and the webmaster gets visitors. Forums are a win:win situation for all parties involved.

Correct. Let me enlighten you my with process, I first get a password from one of the 100k available password boards or IRC channels. It's so easy I often wonder, why not make paysite free? Obviously content owners do nothing (or not enough) to prevent password theft or hacking.
After finding a password, I go to proxy.org and find a secure and fast webbased proxy in order to logon anonymously to a paysite (we don't want anyone to know my IP, do we?). Then, without feeling sorry, I start clicking hires zip links. Then I accelerate these downloads to get a full 10mbyte/s download experience. Damn, that feels good!
While the sets are being downloaded, I enjoy browsing the site for free searching for black haired babes. If time allows I may even throw a wank session at it. After the downloads are finished, I logout and feel happy. I just got my hands on some fine erotic sets.
Now the cool part, I am to extract these massive sets... 5 minutes later ... Nice, 2GB of high quality images. Damn, and all that for free! Anyway, who am I to keep this sets private, a selfish bastard? No. I will share these awesome sets to the public. Why? Because I can.
In order to maximize uptime of images at imagehosts I modify the images. I add an IPTC tag so the images' MD5 sum gets changed. Smart huh? Then, after the images are converted I use the almighty IIIUploader via a secure VPS proxy (anonymity rocks!), a godlike uploading tool intended to help assholes like me to quickly spread content.
A few hours later, after having uploaded 2GB of sets at 40kB/s (I sacrifice my DSL line for the community, hell yea) I'm presented a list of generated links nicely seperated in various sets. All that remains is posting the generated code on the PG, PornBB, Shoosh, Phun and other forums using a mightly tool called: Set Poster, also intended for asses like me to spread content fast. It's a script that posts a thread at an unlimited amount of forums.
A few minutes later, I monitor my threads and see replies coming in: "Thanks BiGFiST"; "You are awesome man"; "FUck, that's hawt!!! THanks!". I accomplished my mission. I go to bed as a proud man. Oh yeah, I'm proud of myself. Hell, I even called myself BiGFiST to match my attitude.
Fortunately it's more present than you might think.
Compared to the amount of people contributing content and the ones who are prosecuted, the chance is nihil you get caught.
The penalty for that is massive and scares me shitless. Tips for getting other stuff are welcome.

Scares me too. I'll just stay away from posting stuff that is usually banned. (ie. Playboy, FHM, and Kari Sweets.)

Wise idea. Of course all copyrighted material that you're not entitled to publish here should "be banned".

If you really are in such a dire need of receiving credit and recognition over the Internet... well, OK.

It's my assumption that contributors value recognition, gives them a reason to contribute more. I like it. It's a neverending cycle. Users not getting thanks or replies eventually cease posting.
However, your actions against unlawful publishing of copyright content is effective. I don't contribute anymore due the low uptime of content. I'm sure many more contributors feel like that. Perhaps, one day, you'll become successful with your crusade. But I tell ya, it's a long, long way :).

If my actions(?) were effective, web sites like this one wouldn't exist anymore.
It's a long way for either of us. But whatever the outcome will be, there won't be any winners at all. Not on your "side", not on mine.
