Mine came from my time playing around in the goth scene. Whereas a lot of the goth crowd tended to really enjoy showing how bleak they were, I was the guy with the black sense of humor. Combined with a raging cocaine habit back in the day, I probably just came off as the world's most stylish nutjob. Even after the coke habit had gone away, I retained my sense of humor, and it turned into a perpetual thing. This actually caused some of the goth kids to give me a hard time, saying that I wasn't really goth. To which I responded, "I'm a different sort of goth, I'm one that outgrew the moping and accepted you really CAN laugh while wearing mascara and fishnets. I'm a sillygoth."

(As it turns out, a former member of Bauhaus had actually coined the term around a year earlier, citing virtually the same logic. He even had a website for it. I have no clue if it's still around.)

Would you believe my actual name is Alexis... Most of my close relatives use to call me Ale. But when I was in my early 20's, because of my work, I met a lot of people from the US and they were always surprised I was a guy because Alexis is a girl's name in the States.
