If I make a post, and I KNOW that a lot of people downloaded it, but no one, or only like 2 people have replied, can I post a masked version of the IPs of all that downloaded and put them in my thread? This is specially usefull if it's an IP that's being leeching a lot, so then the actual posters can talk to each other, and can ban those IPs from downloading from the posters.
No, please do not post forum members IP addresses publicly. There will be a system to prevent leechers in the future.

Well it's not publicly, it's a masked version. And this is just for before the system comes out.

Anyone who could make any use out of IP addresses already knows how to obtain them rather easily. The days of 14.4kbps modems being WinNuked by script kiddies on their "leet" 384kbps DSL modems is long gone man.
Face it, attempting to cloak or obscure IP addresses does nothing.

There is no point in posting somebody's IP Address, I mean as an example everytime I restart my computer I have a new IP Address.

Not exactly, but I'm not going to get into it.
I would not appreciate my static IP address being posted and I doubt others on this board would want it either. If there is one user who is downloading GB's upon GB's please PM me or another moderator.

Why not? I've been DOS'ed a few times. Your connection just fizzles out momentarily. It's nothing to be afraid of.
And besides, how many people here have both the capacity and the desire to DOS someone?

You forget that guests can see most of the forum, so anyone on the internet could get your IP if it was posted publicly.

I don't think your getting the point of this:
It's not posting REAL IP ADDRESSES.
it's posting IP's like:
123.135.612.XXX
NOT the full IP!

But then what's to stop someone from DOS'ing every IP that meets that wildcard criteria? It's only a 255-fold reduction in power!

Who the hell would do that?
And also, the XXX at the end was an example, it could be like 10X.16X.XXX.125

Why are you so insistent about posting peoples IP? If there is an IP which is leeching off you constantly, then just contact an admin.

In theory it could tell us who is downloading without ever thanking the person hosting it. Back on LWS the post rate for download rate was about 1:15. It seems to have gone done since we have moved. We really need the FB system to fix this.
