a thread started by jazzi about thread prefixes sparked a thought about whether this site should require registration or not. i have seen with other sites that need registration to access threads, in particular a movie site i have just discovered, where links appear to never go down. in one subsection i am currently on page 45 and have found every thread still has working links........PAGE 45!!!! click on page 4 in the links section here for example and most likely all links are down. also another site with fine art pics and movies i have found that requires registration has all working links.

well just a thought, no idea how the bots work and if they would still zap all links if this site was made to require registration. also newbies may feel uncomfortable having to give out an e-mail address to a site of this nature.

have i got a point? or just talking nonsense!? :o

The problem is... What's to stop those doing the deleting from signing up for an account??

The bigger the forum, the more content gets deleted...

Register-to-view is bad practice. I'm sure Jazzi will agree for obvious reasons:
- less visitors
- more leechers (0 posters)
- more crap mail addresses (makes mass mailing ineffective)
- content can't get cached (search engines)

Further, I can safely say: registering is not a major step for people who report links.
